The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the kitten approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Himalayan Kittens

Homes around Alipurduar - I usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A medium-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

Feeding a medium cat here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a medium build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In warm and humid conditions water matters as much as food — the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Alipurduar - I

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Alipurduar - I, the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Grooming and coat care in Alipurduar - I

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, a Himalayan Kittens's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Summer here peaks in April at about 34°C. That is manageable for a Himalayan, but watch it closely because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C.

The rainy season runs from May to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Himalayan kitten, the easiest months to arrive are November to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
