Living with a Chihuahua Puppy in Gangtok

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a tiny-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners in the region's hills tend to find this dog a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Gangtok

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Gangtok, the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

Health and vet care in Gangtok

Preventive care in Gangtok is largely a matter of anticipating the cold winter season. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

Space and the outdoors with a Chihuahua Puppy

Homes around Gangtok usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A tiny-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

The city sits at about 1,654 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 28°C in June, so heat is rarely the problem for a Chihuahua that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 4°C in January. A Chihuahua feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Chihuahua puppy, the easiest months to arrive are May and October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
