Kalpeni is humid coastal — moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips — and the Yellow Naped Amazon is a medium-sized, family friendly, good with kids breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Grooming and coat care in Kalpeni

With moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, a Yellow Naped Amazon's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about -35°C in May, so heat is rarely the problem for a Yellow Naped Amazon that it is on the plains.
